Yvonne Shaheen

Yvonne Shaheen is an extraordinarily generous philanthropist to The Children’s Museum and a variety of other arts, educational, and other nonprofit organizations in Indianapolis. There are few, if any, major nonprofit organizations in Indianapolis that she has not served in some type of leadership volunteer role.

The baby brachiosaur “Riad,” who climbs into the museum with the assistance of the adult brachiosaur “Seymour,” was a gift to the museum from Yvonne Shaheen.

Philanthropically, Shaheen’s support has spanned both the annual campaign and capital projects, with lead gifts in support of the various Board challenges, the Cinedome (1994), Liberty Bell 7 (2000), nd The Power of Children Campaign Parking Garage (2004), the naming of “Riad,” the small dinosaur climbing in under the roof on the front of the 2009 Welcome Center, various gifts in support of exhibits (2007 through 2009), and challenge gifts to encourage increased support of the Children’s Museum Fund to both her fellow Board members and the broader donor population.

Her volunteer leadership positions with the museum include a variety of leadership and committee assignments, such as service as a member of the Board of Trustees (1994–2003 and 2008–present), Board Chair (1998–2001), Honorary Trustee (2003–2008), Development Committee Chair (2007–present), Campaign Co-Chair for the Power of Children Capital Campaign (2003–2009), member of the Master Campus Planning Working Group, Finance Committee, and 2009 Recession Planning Task Force.
