Richard D. and Billie Lou Wood

Fireworks of Glass was made possible, in part, through the generosity of Richard and Billie Lou Wood.

Richard (“Dick”) and Billie Lou Wood have generously supported The Children’s Museum with both their time and treasure for more than 40 years. In a volunteer capacity, Billie Lou Wood served on The Children’s Museum’s Board of Trustees from 1972 to 1981, then on the Board of Advisors for one year in 1982, and then again as a voting Board member from 1983 to 1991. She has since served as a Distinguished Advisor. During this time, she also served as co-chair of the Compton Celebration Committee (1981–82) and as chair of the Leadership Gifts Committee for the 1986 “You Can Build a Mind” campaign. Shortly thereafter, she founded the museum’s leadership gift recognition society, The Carousel Society, and the Woods have been members of that recognition group ever since.

Philanthropically, Dick and Billie Lou Wood have contributed nearly $1.1 million to various projects and initiatives at the museum, with significant gifts to the “You Can Build a Mind” campaign, to an endowment for the Compton Gallery, and to the “Power of Children Campaign” and Chihuly’s Fireworks of Glass.
