Lilly Endowment, Inc. has been an extraordinary supporter of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, including a $15 million gift for construction of Dinosphere®: Now You’re in Their World.

Josiah “J. K.” Lilly Sr. and his sons J. K. Lilly Jr. and Eli Lilly established Lilly Endowment Inc.  in 1937, each contributing 17,500 shares of Eli Lilly and Company stock. Through the years Lilly Endowment has been one the most generous institutional donors to The Children’s Museum. Since the early 1970s, Lilly Endowment has given the museum in excess of $29 million, including grants to the 1972 Challenge Fund ($3.5 million), the 1988 “You Can Build A Mind Campaign” ($1.5 million), Dinosphere®: Now You’re in Their World ($15 million), National Geographic MAPS: Tools for Adventure ($1.4 million), and Take Me There: Egypt and the complementary exhibit Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs ($4 million).
